International Economic Summit «Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit»

«Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit» is the main platform for economic cooperation between the Russian Federation and the countries of the Islamic world. For the first time, the International Economic Summit of Russia and the member countries of the Organization of islamic cooperation (OIC) was held in 2009, creating a leading international platform for discussing cooperation issues and implementing joint projects. The Summit is the economic wing of the Russia — Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, established in 2006 after Russia joined the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as an observer. By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov was appointed Chairman of the Strategic Vision Group «Russia - the Islamic world». Within the framework of this group, the annual Summit is being prepared by the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency.
The main goal of «Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit» is to strengthen trade, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural ties between the regions of the Russian Federation and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as to promote the development of the institutions of the Islamic financial system in the Russian Federation.
The objectives of the Summit are:
- development of recommendations in determining the strategic prospects for the development of international economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural relations between the Summit participants;
- promoting the strengthening of relations between business participants of the Russian Federation, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation;
- involving the world's leading experts in a joint discussion of current economic and political issues;
- development of recommendations and legislative initiatives aimed at solving problems in the functioning of the institutions of the Islamic financial system and the economy of the Russian Federation;
- organization of the exchange of experience of successful practices in the implementation of financial projects;
- attracting foreign direct investment in the economy.
The mission of the Summit is to maintain established contacts between Russia and the countries of the Islamic world, to implement measures to strengthen the positive image of Russia in the OIC countries and the OIC countries in Russia, to promote projects at the international level.
Russian regions get an opportunity to show their potential for domestic and foreign investors, companies from all over the world expand the distribution areas of their goods and services, government representatives gain experience from their foreign colleagues and reach a new level of interaction.
The first International Summit of Islamic Business and Finance on June 25-26, 2009 was attended by 250 people from 18 countries. Over the twelve-year history of KazanSummit, a leading international platform for discussing issues of cooperation and implementing joint projects has been created, as well as a tool for presenting the economic opportunities and investment potential of our country. Thus, the XI International Economic Summit «Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit 2019», which was held at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center from April 24 to 26, 2019, was attended by over 3,500 delegates and 5,000 visitors – representatives of 72 countries and 38 regions of Russia. More than 50 sessions were held in such topical areas as Islamic finance and partner banking, halal industry, export development, and socially oriented business, it-entrepreneurship, diplomacy, as well as bilateral business missions, the traditional international halal industry exhibition Russia Halal Expo (5000 sq. m.), 42 agreements were signed.
Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation caused by the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus infection, the 2020 Summit was postponed to 2021.
